Most Economical Sports Cars

Sports cars are a joy to drive, but often times they are gas guzzlers that will dent your wallet at the pump. Since car manufacturers have been improving the efficiency of their engines, new sports cars have been getting much better gas mileage than the ones that were available in the past. If you are looking for a new economical sports car, then we’ve compiled a list that will be perfect for you. The first car on our list is the German BMW M235 which starts at around $42,000. This car is powered by a 3.0L I-6 engine that is equipped with a turbocharger and produces 320 horsepower. With a curb weight of about 3500 lbs this car gets up to 31 mpg on the highway. The great gas mileage, German luxury and 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds make this a great economical sports car. If you are looking for a car that has a lower sale price than the BMW M235 then the 2015 Scion FR-S would be a great choice. Starting at $25,000 the Scion comes with a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that produces 200 horsepower and gets up to 34 mpg on the highway. Though this car takes 7 seconds to go from 0-60, due to the nimble body and light curb weight it makes for a great track car that can keep up with more powerful cars such as the Nissan 350z and the Ford Mustang. Competing with the Scion is the Subaru BRZ which also starts at around $25,000. The BRZ body is based off the same framework as the FR-S. This car has a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine which produces 200 horsepower like the FR-S and a curb weight of around 2,700 lbs. An efficient engine plus a light body allows this and the BRZ to make the list of most economical sports cars. This car gets up to 34 mpg on the highway just like its counterpart, the FR-S. Next up on our list is the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata which starts off at $24,000. The Miata is the lightest of the cars we’ve listed, and powered by a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine which produces 155 horsepower, this car is able to dash from 0-60 in roughly 5.8 seconds. The combination of a light body and efficient engine allow this sports car to get up to 36 mpg on the highway. The last car on our list is the 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C. This car is quite special when compared to the rest since it is an Italian brand and Italian cars are known for their performance. Starting at around $55,000 this exotic sports car has a 1.7L 4-cylinder engine which produces 237 horsepower and gets up to 34 mpg on the highway. Though this car has a smaller engine than the cars listed above, this car is still able to go from 0-60 in 4.1 seconds which is faster than the rest of the cars. This is mainly due to the lightweight body which only weighs about 2,400 lbs. There are quite a few economical sports cars available on the market today. Most of them are classified as economical due to the small engines and lightweight bodies which allow them to drive fast with less horsepower. With car manufacturers creating more smaller and more efficient engines, it is easier to come by economical sports cars these days.
