From the perspective of semi-trailer truck drivers, it can be difficult to tell when a vehicle is attempting a passing maneuver. The size of most semis makes seeing vehicles driving behind or alongside them difficult even under the best of circumstances. That degree of difficulty is only increased in countries like Argentina and their numerous tight, one-lane roads. Unfortunately, for many Argentinian drivers, navigating these roads can have tragic consequences. On average, a person dies every hour on Argentine roads due to traffic accidents, many of which are caused by drivers trying to maneuver around semi-trailer trucks. With the goal of reducing the number of accidents involving semi-trailer trucks, Samsung created a Safety Truck program for its fleet of semi-trailer trucks in Argentina. Samsung equipped its fleet with wireless cameras along their front bumpers. The cameras transmit real-time images to giant video displays in the back, allowing drivers a 360-degree view of the road around them. In addition, the Safety Truck has a night vision mode so that semi-trailer trucks drivers can see behind them at night. Samsung’s Safety Truck program, created in conjunction with the advertising agency Leo Burnett Argentina and the tech group Ingematica, is currently exclusive to Argentina, but Samsung has intimated that the program may be developed for worldwide use.
