The 2020 Mercedes-Benz A-Class is the carmaker’s new affordable entry-level sedan. The vehicle offers car buyers a luxurious experience at a price that many people can afford. Mercedes designed the sedan using high-end materials, plenty of comfort features and advanced safety systems.
Mercedes is offering the sedan in two different trim levels, which are the A 220 and the AMG A 35. Those who opt for the standard A 220 will enjoy a vehicle powered with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It produces 188 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive comes standard while all-wheel drive can be added as an option. According to fuel economy estimates, the front-wheel-drive sedan will get 24 miles per gallon in the city and 35 miles per gallon on the highway. Those who get the all-wheel-drive model will still receive 24 miles per gallon in the city and 34 miles per gallon on the highway.
The standard A 220 comes with features like LED headlights, leather upholstery, and power-adjustable front seats. In the category of tech, the vehicle contains Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in addition to a 7-inch central touchscreen. It also includes safety equipment like forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking. Mercedes has several option packages with the A 220. The Premium package comes with blind-spot monitoring, keyless entry, and a larger display screen while the Multimedia package offers buyers an advanced navigation system. There is also a Parking Assistance package and a Driver Assistance package.
Those who opt for the AMG A 35 will have a vehicle that comes with restyled exterior elements, more driving modes, and a sport-tuned suspension. Other options for the vehicle model include adaptive suspension, massaging front seats and a 12-speaker Burmester surround-sound system.
Drivers will appreciate the way that the vehicle model handles. In testing, the A 220 achieved a speed of 60 miles per hour in just 6.1 seconds. The vehicle’s steering offers precision while the throttle response is excellent with very little turbo lag.
The cabin features a premium look that includes a set of round air vents that give it a contemporary feel. In the front, the seats provide noticeable comfort. Buyers can upgrade them to include heat, making the model great for those who have long traffic commutes. Mercedes designed the back seats to fold with a 40/20/40 split. This makes the car more useful since it allows owners to transport items that might be a bit too big for the trunk.
